Harry King & Sons

Harry King & Sons boasts a proud legacy of exceptional craftsmanship and customer service that dates back to 1850. Founded by George Garrard, the boatyard was passed to his apprentice, Harry King, in 1898. Over the decades, the business remained in the King family until 2005 when Geoff King, Harry’s grandson, retired.

Three Thames barges with red sails set are seen on the river Blackwater at Maldon in Essex

In 1898, an apprentice named Harry King took over this boatyard. His sons later built boats for Arthur Ransome, the man who wrote "Swallows and Amazons." Today, Gus and Sarah Curtis continue this legacy of craftsmanship.

What our clients say:

"I live in Portsmouth, but bought a 30ft yacht in Woolverstone. I negotiated with the owner to have the boat brought out in March for a scrub down, boat survey & anti-foul, etc. Gus & Sarch couldn't have been more helpful with arranging everything over the phone. They went beyond what I had paid them and were very accommodating, whilst I stayed on the boat. Very friendly place to live, with a great pub on the doorstep too!"
